About the Site
BreastfeedingTwins.org is an online resource aimed at supporting and sustaining moms who are breastfeeding (or considering breastfeeding) twins and higher order multiples. The site features posts by a variety of breastfeeding moms addressing their challenges and their triumphs, and offers tips and resources from lactation specialists as well as the “sisterhood” of breastfeeding moms in a supportive and non-judgmental environment.
Some tips for navigating the site:
- Individual stories can be browsed through the “Stories” tab or through the menu of keywords in the sidebar. (Be sure to read the comments, too, for more information and resources.)
- Reader-submitted questions will be answered in an ongoing “Q&A” column.
About Me
My name is JonaRose Feinberg. I am the mother of a fabulous set of (no-longer-breastfeeding) twins, the Past President of my local Parents of Twins club, and an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) in the Seattle, WA area. I breastfed my twins for 28 months. I feel tremendously lucky that I was able to continue breastfeeding that long, and that I received help from a supportive and knowledgeable Lactation Consultant to work through several breastfeeding challenges. It wasn’t all luck, though – I sought out support and resources online and in books, from local friends and far-away specialists. Building that network was an ongoing and time-consuming project, and I know many women don’t have the time, the resources, or the familial support to assemble their own support crew.
My online community was a primary source of support in those early days. Bloggers who had come before me wrote about their own experiences, and their stories, comments, and willingness to offer support and reassurance contributed to my thread of sanity in the first weeks of breastfeeding. Emmie (allthis.typepad.com) received so many hits on her blog that she created a series of posts addressing breastfeeding issues. When she moved to a password protected blog, I asked if I could maintain those records. It took a while to give them a worthy home, but here we are. (In fact, you’ll find my befuddled first-week-of-breastfeeding self in the comments on one of those early posts.)
In my work with the Parents of Twins club, I’ve found that expectant moms often have questions about breastfeeding. How will it work? How do I manage two babies? What happens when my partner goes back to work? What happens when I go back to work? Can I ever give bottles? How will I juggle all of this? In my attempt to provide support for local moms, I became a Certified Lactation Educator Counselor, and am now an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant. I facilitate a Breastfeeding Support Group through the Twins Club as well as seeing moms for individual prenatal and postpartum lactation consultations. Have questions? Need support? Looking for community? Ask away!
